So I've decided to get back into animating (and blogging) since I haven't been animating properly since around 2012 (after I left uni)
Hopefully this will keep me more motivated to animate and challenge myself more.. starting with some basics though to make sure I still have some of those down.
Lets see how this goes! ^_^
Came across a site not too long ago that I found really helpful for me to keep me drawing and finding things to draw.
My issue lately has mainly been that I'm unable to find something interesting enough to keep me drawing so I just hadn't been.
This site that's given me some topics or objects to focus on when drawing that keeps me interested to completion of my work - Yay!
It's just a list that you can choose from to draw which is pretty straight forward but I like the items on the list and it works for me so maybe if you're in the same position as I was, it could help you out too.
Here's the link to his website that contains a lot more info and tips.

Glancing over my older work and actually liked this character and thought to do something a little more with him... will also do the rest.. or most of them :]
He was done in Adobe Illustrator and then imported into After Effect where all the other effects where added in the background.
Completed. Drew him in Adobe Illustrator CS6 and then created the flare in Adobe After Effects using Andrew Kramer's Optical Flares. which you can get from here.
Just some random Sci-Fi idea I had but thinking about animating it now. I dont really have a clear idea in my head of how the finished piece will look so I'm quite curious.
Actually don't like this at all but hey.. I guess someone might...
It's been in a work in progress stage for almost half a year now and I just couldn't find any style to finalize it in so just ended up leaving it as you see it now. Pretty much just got to a point where I just wanted it out of the way and out of my "WIP" folder amongst the rest of my "never seeming to end" drawings.
Here's the final animation.... or close to final. Quality it horrible here so try here for HD
Might possibly add some more little effects but nothing extra is really needed.
Here he is coloured and completed for the most part. Time for him to start moving! (ever so slightly)
Here's yet another of Ake. He hasn't even done much besides stand there and he's tired already. Oh well.
Also another one to be animated with simple basic movements.
There...
animation number 1 finished. As planned, it's just him standing there
but I do like the result. Subtle but noticeable enough to me. It's
loopable although YouTube doesn't loop any videos.. (as far as I know)
btw, animation has been done in Adobe After Effects and character drawn in Adobe Illustrator.
Feedback highly appreciate. :]
Finalized Ake now using Illustrator so it's nice and ready for after effects! Now on to do some animation test!
Something pretty simple first though so something like..... him just standing there haha... work completed! :P................ AAAAAHH!!!... I FORGOT HIS LITTLE GOATEE!! D'X
A little more serious about this one. Actually like this one so will be using this character a bit more for some animation tests.
Just a random sketch I did early on this year. Thought I might animate him some time later on.
Some more sketches.
Had some free time in the office at work and free time made me think of freedom... and freedom makes me think of flying. ^_^
Just a random character, wasn't for anything special. Just wanted to put the clothing idea down.
Semi pleased with this girl. I saw this girl with long thick hair which made me draw this character. I think I might continue to draw her and keep her as a usable character of mine. It's been a while since I've drawn her and haven't yet since this one so I feel like I really should again. Just haven't drawn any situation whereby I would drop her in as the main character but sure am thinking about it now.
Hadn't done some digi painting for a while so did this over a few days of free time at work. I really enjoyed drawing this even though I had absolutely nothing in mind while I was drawing it. Pretty much a 'draw as you go' piece but I think it came out ok.
I think this was the quickest and easiest piece I've done in this style, which you can probably tell.
And another of the shine... but this one if of an old friend of mine so it's from an image provided which I loved. The pose was interesting to me in the pic and the clothing made it interesting for me to simplify and figure out how I was going to keep the consistency while maintaining somewhat of the details. I'm not used to simplifying details as I typically like drawing as much detail as I can... well could - before I started animating and trying to simplify everything in the animations to avoid spending 10 years on one second worth of animation hehe.
Yet another of the "shine effect"
Still just sticking to the all shiny thing.
I went quite a bit over board
with this one compared to the piece that I saw as I got so carried away with the look
of gradients. I like the style as it just looks quite metallic and
shiny... (and I love some shiny chrome ^_^)
Came across a gradient driven piece of art work that I loved so did this
one based on that artwork. It's a simple little style that almost eliminates tone and lighting that shines from a direct angle. I feel like dark and light areas of the gradient can almost be placed anywhere that requires a change in value to distinguish shapes or areas on the subject. It's a style I think I shall be using quite a lot over time.
Originally designed back at college in 2007 I think for a manga I was planning on creating but that never got very far at all. Didn't even get beyond these characters that were created. I just never had a clear enough storyline to go anywhere, but I also didn't have the motivation or cared enough about it to take it any further than the character design stage.
Anyway, it's still a piece that I like til now and was pretty fun creating these guys.
Well, here is my first 2014 bouncing ball animation. I's a bit rough
at the beginning drawing it freehand (which I guess I still could have
done neither and should have really, but I was more excited about
finishing it and seeing how it came out since I hadn't animated frame by
frame for a while.
It can still do with some adjustments to its physics in the way it bounces which I (might do) some other time. :]
Here is my second bouncing ball animation of 2014. This one is to be loop-able. Also needs some more work... some other time perhaps.
Aaaand here is yet another little basic bouncing ball test however!... this one rolls at the end!. Amazing little twist huh.
